After stating that Israel so far has killed at least 27,000 defenseless civilians in Gaza, this gated WaPost editorial claims that Israel is a democracy that can hold itself accountable. Quote: “Israel needs to be held accountable for its military conduct in Gaza. After the conflict’s end — which is long overdue — there will no doubt be Israeli judicial, parliamentary and military commissions of inquiry. Israeli’s vibrant, independent media will do its own investigations.”
Given the reality of the unchecked genocide in Gaza and pogrom in the West Bank, which the world is watching, this claim would be laughable if it didn’t serve to whitewash Israel’s purposeful slaughter and land seizure. The editorial does not mention the role of the US in arming the Netanyahu regime and providing it with political cover. While the ICC warrants send an important moral and political message, only the US can stop the killing. Israel is increasingly less able to hold itself accountable. Already having deprived Palestinians and non-Jews of equal rights under law, Israel is now restricting the rights of Jewish citizens and news media:
