Federal court strikes down Trump’s tariffs on countries around the world – Politico

It may be counterintuitive, but this legal setback could be a political gift for Trump and the GOP. By invalidating most of his tariffs, the trade court is allowing Trump to dodge blame for backing down from what otherwise promises to be a disaster for Republicans in the next election. Trump’s tariffs are a huge tax increase on consumers that, if unchecked, will soon begin impacting most Americans, including Trump’s “base,” in the form of higher prices and empty shelves. The court ruling allows him to continue pushing for the tariffs in a performative way, while a blunting price increases. By hiding beneath the skirts of the courts, the president can also try to muffle catcalls from the business community of waffling on the tariffs and “TACO” trading. TACO is shorthand for “Trump Always Chickens Out.”:
