DOGE or DOPE?

Major change for millions of new and existing Social Security recipients – Independent

The Trump Administration has dramatically cut Social Security staff and the number of offices. Now it has cut telephone access for beneficiaries. It is difficult to understand how these actions will increase program “efficiency,” especially when the agency must deal with more applications and inquiries as it changes benefits for more than 3 million people under recent legislation while also processing claims from a growing number of Boomers. DOGE staff must know that what it is doing will throttle access to the program, especially for people with disabilities, the very old, and those who have trouble getting to the nearest office. More people will experience distress and die stuck in the jammed pipeline. The impact will be most severe in states with large numbers of elderly and low-income people and in rural areas.
