The Washington Post and other major US media are finally taking off the blinders and investigating in greater detail how Israel has been invading and slowing conquering the West Bank through settlement, displacement, land theft, and government-sanctioned violence against an unprotected people. The American public is finally getting glimpses of how Israel has been systemically crushing the Palestinian people for decades. How long will it take to realize that what is needed now is sending in an international force to protect the West Bank people from Israel – not more weapons for Israel to kill and intimidate civilians.
It would be ironic if the Post is shooting for a Pulitzer on a subject it and other media have negligently ignored while providing years of coverage favorable to Israeli expansionism. Why now? Has the violence against Palestinians gotten that much worse? Is the US establishment less fearful of offending influential American Jews and AIPAC lobbyists that jump to smear any criticism of the Netanyahu government? Is the anti-Zionist protest movement, many of whose leaders are Jewish, gaining political leverage? As school starts up, will protests resume on college campuses? How many college presidents will be forced out of their jobs this time around?
