Losing their religion: why US churches are on the decline – Guardian

Another factor may be that, as a result of the First Amendment of the Constitution and separation of church and state, the US market for organized religion is extremely competitive — and less prone to monopolization than most sectors of the economy. Seventy percent of Americans still identify as religious though fewer are tied to a particular church.
